TWO venues for the Upton jazz festival have been moved after becoming waterlogged.

Oliver’s - also known as venue 2 - has moved from Fish Meadow to Upton Church while Duke’s - also known as venue 3 - has moved from the meadow to Hanley Castle High School.

Free shuttle buses will take people to and from the venues.

The decision was taken amid worries about using electrics at the venues which are on low lying land.

Although campers who have already pitched their tents on the meadow will stay, any new arrivals will be directed to Bluebell farm.

The closures also mean people will not be able to park on the meadow but will be directed to car parks in town including one in New Street.

Tonight, musicians due to play at Oliver’s, including Dan Block and John Shillito’s Select Six, will move to Upton Church.

Those due to play at Duke’s including the Perdido Street Jazz Band, the Brownfield/Bryne Quintet and Sir Alan’s Hot Groovers will move to Hanley Castle High School.

Tomorrow, The Chase Band, Strumpit, Sir Alan’s Hot Groovers, The Storyville Jassband and Bob Kerr and his Whoopee Band will all move from Oliver’s to Upton Church.

Upton Primary School Band, Tad Newton’s Jazz friends, the Mike Burney Quartet, the Alan Barnes Quartet and Karen Sharp and Robert Fowler Quintet will move from Duke’s to Hanley Castle High School.

A spokeswoman said crowds were still arriving for the festival and all events were going ahead as planned.
