THOUSANDS of music enthusiasts started arriving in Upton-upon-Severn today for the start of the town’s ever-popular jazz festival.

More than 15,000 revellers are expected to crowd in for the 27th annual event, which again features a glittering line-up of internationally-renowned musicians.

Between today and Sunday more than 60 concerts will take place in seven different venues, including five huge marquees on Fish Meadow.

There will be dozens more free gigs and streets will be packed with stalls and entertainers.

This year’s line-up is headed by legendary jazzman Chris Barber and 2011 British Jazz Award stars Alan Barnes, Karen Sharp and Robert Fowler.

There will also be turns from US reedsman Dan Block and festival favourites such as King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys, Carl Sinclair’s Boogie Band and Fat Sam’s Band.

The festival’s youth project – the Best of Young Jazz – is also returning and will showcase the best rising teenage talent on the circuit.

This year’s festival is being sponsored by Malvern’s fam-ous Morgan Motor Company, and its cars will be heading up the traditional festival parades taking place tomorrow and Sunday.

The music starts at noon today and tickets cost from £25 (under 14s free with a paying adult). For details or to book, visit uptonjazz.co.uk or call 01684 593254.
