WORCESTER is unlikely to see any respite from the wet weather for at least another week, according to your Worcester News weatherman Paul Damari.

He is predicting there will be no sustained dry weather at all going in to the weekend.

“Some of it will be showers but some of it will be heavier stuff and it is likely to just keep coming and going,” he said.

“We may get a brighter interval in the first part of Saturday but it is unlikely to last too long and there is a strong possibility of gusty winds and even thunder early on Sunday.”

With the risk of storms continuing into next week and “sunshine hard to find”, he said Worcester could still be in line for a record wet June.

However, despite the expected downpours the county is not currently considered at risk of flooding.

The Environment Agency did have four flood alerts in place across the West Midlands, including for rivers in the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean, but these were removed early yesterday afternoon.

It will continue to monitor the situation and Mr Damari warned that the situation could shift dramatically depending on what happens in other parts of the country.

“At the moment the rivers are running quite low but if there is a lot of rain where the ground is saturated then that is instant run-off and the picture can change very quickly,” he said.
