TEAMS from Droitwich, Pershore, Malvern and Cheltenham battled it out at the second ‘Canoe Polo in the Pool’ event of 2012 at Droitwich Leisure Centre.

The back-to-back, fast paced games were challenging, especially for the youngsters new to the sport Oli Moore, captain of Wychavon Kayak and Canoe Club (WKCC), said: “It was a bit tiring but really good fun working together.”

The event was organised by Liz Witherford from WKCC and Andy Pitt from Wychavon District Council and sponsored by Worcester County Council’s Health Matters funding. Competitors were assisted by polo expert Adam Hall and also coaches Claire Teagle and Rita O’Reilly, both from Droitwich.

The adult league was won by visiting team from Cheltenham Canoe Club and the junior league was won yet again by WKCC boy’s team, with second place drawn between Droitwich Young Fire Fighters and WKCC girl’s team.

Everyone who took part received a British Canoe Union certificate.

The next session will be a relaxing paddle on the Droitwich Canals as part of ‘Go Canoeing Week’ in April, with a beginner’s Summer Splash Session pencilled in at the Droitwich Lido in June.
