MEMBERS of Droitwich Spa Methodist Church met with town MP Peter Luff to discuss the issue of poverty across the world.
Mr Luff met with Rev Jane Wilson and church members to talk about the Micah Challenge, a coalition of Christian churches in the UK trying to stop poverty.
Over 80 people from the congregation made promises which included buying more fair trade goods, recycling whenever possible, giving more to charities working in developing countries, such as Water Aid, Christian Aid and Compassion, speaking out against unfair trade rules and living more simply.
Rev Jane Wilson said: “As a church community we want to join the Micah Challenge to remind our government and the UN that we need to make it a priority to end extreme poverty in our world.”
As he read through the promises made, Mr Luff praised the work of churches in his constituency and around the country in raising the issue of global poverty, and made a promise of his own to write to deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg.
