POLICE were spat upon and attacked after being called to a domestic disturbance in Kidderminster, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Kevin Crisp, 28, of Holman Street, Kidderminster, was jailed for five months by the town magistrates on October 26 for assault on police.

But this was reduced to three months on appeal to the crown court last week. Mr Tony Fryer, for Crisp, successfully argued that the sentences of three months and two months should be concurrent instead of consecutive.

Mr Malcolm Parkes, for the Crown, said the police had gone to a house in East Street, after a disturbance had been reported. A window had been broken at the rear.

Crisp was found injured in the bathroom and a woman covered in blood was also upstairs.

Crisp, who had been drinking, was handcuffed after beginning to struggle. He tried to push a police sergeant down the narrow stairs and spat in the face of another policeman when they got to the police station.

Mr Fryer said Crisp, who worked for a Kidderminster boat firm, had begun offending after becoming estranged from his girlfriend. He was also affected by the divorce of his parents after 33 years of marriage.

Judge John Cavell said spitting at a police officer was an unpleasant offence and merited custody.
