REDDITCH police are concerned for the safety of a 71-year-old man who has been missing from his Mount Pleasant home since Thursday.

Eamon Dawson, who disappeared at about 10.30am, said he was going shopping and is believed to have recently been depressed.

He has not been found despite an extensive search of the area and has made no contact with his family.

Mr Dawson was wearing a three-quarter length navy blue coat with a brown corduroy collar, blue shirt, brown trousers and black shoes.

He has thinning grey hair, blue eyes and speaks with an Irish accent.

Chief Insp John Molloy said: "We're very concerned for Eamon's safety. He's quite an elderly man who will obviously need a degree of care.

"We need to hear from anyone who may have seen him. He stated he would be going to Iceland to do some shopping but has not returned home."

Chief Insp Molloy added checks had been carried out in the town centre and with known friends and CCTV tapes studied.

He said: "We've also made inquiries in Feckenham and Evesham where Eamon has relatives but he hasn't been seen at any of these addresses."

Eamon or anyone who knows where he is can call either his sister or Redditch police on 584888.
