Pershore II 3,

Rugeley II 2

PERSHORE consolidated their mid-table position with a win more comfortable than the score suggests in their final DTZ League home match of the season.

They started strongly with some excellent passing movements which set up several near chances but, unfortunately, they were squandered as has become usual for a side lacking a major goalscorer.

Matt Hughes linked up well with Tucker and Wright and provided several defence-splitting passes that his teammates just failed to convert.

The first goal finally arrived and was scored by Taylor who converted a complicated short corner routine from close-range.

Pershore's dominance was illustrated by the fact that Anderson in the home goal only touched the ball once during the first half.

The second goal came from another well thought out corner with Hughes firing in a fierce crossfield pass that might possibly have been a shot, and Taylor was again on hand to power the ball home.

The half ended with the home side leading but disappointed that only two goals had been scored.

This was quickly remedied after the restart with a forward at last completing one of the many flowing moves down the right flank as Hughes scored from Emsley's pass.

Rushin, in his final home game as captain, then took the opportunity to look to the future and try out several players in different positions.

This caused some disruption and allowed Rugeley back into the game to the extent that they scored two quick goals.

However, Pershore were never in any danger of losing a match which should have seen them score a hatful of goals.
