A TEENAGER accused of a firebomb attack on a Worcester home told a jury how shocked he was when police arrested him in his bedroom in the early hours.

"I struggled at first because I didn't know why I was being arrested," Sajad Hussain said.

Hussain, aged 18, of Rainbow Hill, Worcester, denies five counts of attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life and perverting the course of justice.

Worcester Crown Court has heard that all six occupants of the house in Ronkswood escaped after three petrol bombs were thrown through a window.

The prosecution alleges that it was a revenge attack after a 15-year-old girl accused Hussain of indecent assault.

Hussain told the court that he denied the indecency allegation and that he had not shouted threats and insults at the girl and her family before the firebomb attack on August 2 last year. He also denied writing graffiti on her house.

Hussain said that after completing his ice cream round on August 1, he had driven friends to Birmingham for a film and later a meal. He returned to Worcester at about 2am on August 2 and dropped them off before going home to bed.

His father had woken him a short time later because he was having trouble with his milk float. He had dressed and was awaiting his father when the police arrived.

The prosecution alleges that tissue paper bearing Hussain's fingerprint was found in the garden of the attacked house. He said he was in the habit of taking similar paper from a petrol station, but could not understand how any got into the garden.

The trial continues.
