JOHN Brain has revealed he will not be following up his interest in Sale's hooker Bernard Jackman.

Worcester Rugby Club's head coach ran the rule over the out-of-favour Shark in Tuesday's 44-5 Warriors defeat by Harlequins but will not be calling him back.

The 25-year-old, who has struggled to make an impact at Heywood Road, had hoped to win a contract with the Sixways club but will not be joining Joe Ross and Chris Hall to battle for the number two jersey.

"We will not be following up our interest in Bernard Jackman," said Brain. "If you come to a club on trial, you have to do something that interests the coaches. He wasn't able to do that on Tuesday."

Meanwhile, Brain has admitted that he will not stand in Ben Hinshelwood's way if he feels a move away from Worcester will benefit the centre's career.

The former Bedford Blues flyer is out of contract in the summer and Brain is trying to persuade him to extend his stay at Sixways.

However, with Hinshelwood hoping to break into the Scotland set-up, Brain admits his decision over his future will be purely a rugby one rather than financial.

"It's never been about money with Ben," added Brain. "He's an intelligent guy and he's carefully considering his options.

"We will do everything possible to keep him here because we want him to be part of our plans next season. He is happy here and he likes Worcester, but he is looking at the bigger picture.

"If, however, he gets an offer that we feel will help his development within the game then we certainly won't stand in his way. We are talking to him though and hopefully we will we know more within the next month."

The former Gloucester man has also distanced himself with a move for Exeter's in-form fly-half Chris Malone. The Australian star has been one of the finds of the season in National One but his non-EU nationality may prove a difficulty for Worcester should they be interested with their quota already full.

"I know he is available but he's an overseas player," Brain said. "What we are focused on is our final four games and that takes priority at the moment."

n Worcester have no match this weekend, but resume their National One campaign with a home clash with Bedford Blues next week.
