AN animal lover says she has left been left traumatised after being savaged by what is thought to be a Japanese hunting dog.

Lisa Davies, 38, of Millfield Gardens, Kidderminster, may have to have reconstructive surgery on her arm after the attack by dog, possibly an akita.

She says she is unable to sleep and can't face the thought of going back to Brinton Park where the incident took place.

Kidderminster Police say they have had a good response to an appeal for information about the dog's identity and its owner.

Miss Davies was walking her own dog, a Samoyed, with her boyfriend Martin Butler when the attack happened.

"A young lad was walking the dog on a long lead. I asked if it was dangerous and he said no so I put the back of my hand out for it to smell.

"The dog then flew at me and sank his teeth into my arm. I was wearing two jumpers and a coat but his teeth went right through.

"The young man then walked away and I was too upset to do anything more because I was in agony," she said.

Miss Davies has had regular hospital treatment but her injuries cannot be stitched because it is a canine-related wound.

"It has knocked my confidence for six, I am frightened to go out and it looks like I will have to receive counselling. I'm even nervous of dogs now which is crazy because I am an animal lover and have a lovely dog myself.

"Fortunately my employers at Sealine, where I only started last month, have been very understanding,"she said.

"The dog looks cuddly but it is really vicious. I am worried about what might happen if it attacked a child,"she said.

Kidderminster Police spokeswoman Caroline Schubert said: "This woman has been badly hurt. It is essential we find the identity of the dog and its owner."

The dog is described as fluffy with a tail that curls up and over.
