REDDITCH captain Mark Rose will be cheering on Yardley and District to the title after weekend results.

The Kingfishers did all they could by recording an impressive 20-14 win over league leaders Veyseyans but saw promotion rivals Edwardians beat second placed Yardley in their top four clash.

That result pegged Yardley back into the pack and means another side who would edge out Redditch because of the Bromsgrove Road side's poor points difference.

But two of Yardley's final three fixtures are against Edwardians and Veyseyans and Redditch need the current leaders to win both in a nailbiting run-in.

If Yardley do win both, Redditch still need maximum points from their final fixtures - at third from bottom Tenbury and at home to fourth from bottom neighbours Five Ways Old Edwardians - and require Edwardians to drop further points in their three other outstanding North Midlands One games.

After wrestling with the maths, Rose remained positive.

"We want Yardley to beat Edwardians and Veyseyans and win the league," said the Redditch skipper.

"We put in an excellent performance because the lads knew what the game meant and went out there and did it.

"It was satisfying because we were poor at Yardley the week before.

"It is frustrating to have two weekends off from the league particularly because we are going to Newquay on tour and it will distract the lads from what we need to do in the league.

"But after the injury list we have had this season it's satisfying to be in with a chance of promotion at this stage."

The club have yet to confirm this weekend's fixture with an A and B team match-up against neighbours Alcester a possibility and the chance of an early kick-off because of the televised Six Nations game.
