TWO of Kings Norton's stalwarts are set to enjoy a landmark game on Saturday.

The Midlands Four West South strugglers take a break from their battle to beat the drop with a friendly at home to Aldridge (ko 3pm).

And second rows Bill Hendon and Dickie Brookes celebrate their 50th birthdays and 30 years' service at the Ash Lane club.

Brookes has been a first team regular for three decades and Hendon is promoted to the starting line-up for the match against North Midlands Two opposition.

Kings captain Mark Waudby says his side will welcome a two week break from league action after a punishing month of rugby.

High-pressure relegation scraps against Earlsdon, Southam and Stourport, together with a demanding friendly against Midlands Two West-bound Dixonians have drained his side, who climbed out of the bottom three on Saturday with a timely 22-5 win over struggling Stourport.

"We've had four weeks of intense rugby," said the Ash Lane skipper.

"The commitment was great again on Saturday, in the past three league games we haven't been carrying any passengers and the work we have been putting in for the last season and a half is finally paying off.

"We have recruited players for the twos and threes and will have more strength in depth next season.

"Our aim is to win our last two league games and finish on a high."

Kings hold the cards in their battle to beat the drop but need two wins to be mathematically certain of finishing out of the bottom three.

Norton will entertain North Midlands Two outfit Aldridge in a friendly on Saturday (kick-off to be confirmed).

Kings resume league duty at Dunlop on Saturday, April 6 and know a point will relegate neighbours Woodrush.
