NOMADIC outfit Dixonians' bid to groundshare with Kings Norton next season, agreed between the two executives, has been rejected by the Kings committee.

Ash Lane landlords Norton have offered an alternative arrangement to their would-be tenants with a member of the playing staff confirming it included sharing the first team pitch on matchdays if clashes could be avoided and occasional use of another pitch.

But Dixonians treasurer Roy Burton said he was confident it would not scupper an agreement. "The plans have to be approved by EGM's at both clubs but it sounds like their new offer is pretty much what we wanted anyway," he said.

"We really just want use of the pitch for matches. There might be a question over signage or memorabilia and we want use of the bar and I'm sure they would want us to share in their social functions but it's not a clubshare - more like a one year deal on a proper basis."

Dixonians guaranteed a top two finish and promotion to Midlands West Two with a 29-10 win at Selly Oak at the weekend.

The only thing which could rob the nomadic side promotion is another shake-up in the unpredictable world of regional rugby, and the champions-elect are one point off wrapping up the title after favourable results at the weekend.

With Aston OE and Bridgnorth the only sides who could catch the Ash Lane tenants before Saturday, Aston were held to a 15-15 home draw against Kidderminster and Bridgnorth crashed 18-10 at home to Telford.

The latest round of fixtures means Aston can only catch the leaders by winning their final two fixtures, hoping Dixonians lose their last two - against the bottom two sides - and overhauling a points difference gap of nine.

Dixonians, who are hoping to extend their groundshare with Kings Norton, face a frustrating two week break from league action and are set to visit a Bournville side struggling three levels below them in the North Midlands Two relegation zone.

A win or draw at home to Old Halesonians when Midlands Three West North fixtures resume on Saturday, April 6, would land the title for the hosts and could confirm relegation for the visitors.
