HOCKEY: A poor first half saw Kidderminster Hockey Club lose a high-scoring encounter at Sikh Union 7-4.

The Notts-based home side were 5-2 ahead at half-time but Kidderminster played better in the second half where honours were even.

R Upton scored two of the Kidderminster goals with one each for Mike Brazier and M Taylor, the latter from a penalty flick.

Young players like Edd Lang and Rupert Upshon played well and Nick Adams and Neil Jackson impressed in defence but Brazier was awarded man of the match.

Kidderminster 3rds 4 Malvern 2

Kidderminster 4ths 2

Wolverhampton 2

The fourths started well against bottom-of-the-table opposition and Neil Jarvie followed up to score the opening goal after Paul Rhodes hit the post.

Wolverhampton hit back against the run of play to equalise before half-time.

Kidderminster pushed to regain the lead but fell behind to a well-worked Wolverhampton short-corner.

However, the home side grabbed a leveller through Rhodes' fine individual effort.

Kings Heath Pickwick 6ths 7

Kidderminster 5ths 3

Pickwick went four goals ahead in 25 minutes but this prompted a quick two-goal response from Kidderminster.

Good interplay between Neil Furminger and Marcus Murcott resulted in the latter scoring a fine goal, while Danny Mazurek pounced on a loose ball to grab the second.

The home side scored early in the second half and within minutes but Furminger hit back from a well-struck short-corner.

However, hopes of a Kidderminster recovery were dashed as the home team scored two further goals.
