I SUSPECT that I speak for many Harriers supporters when I express equal measures of regret and concern at the resignation of the chairman, Lionel Newton.

We all owe him a great debt of gratitude both for his financial help and for all the time and effort he has afforded the club over the last few years.

In terms of the poor attendances for home matches, it was possibly always unrealistic to expect people who have been following bigger clubs in the area for many years to switch their allegiance and frequently attend Aggborough.

However, I cannot understand the lack of support from local business, particularly the larger carpet firms - a sentiment echoed many times by Lionel himself.

Surely ways could be found for them to support the club financially while obviously benefiting themselves commercially.

The irony is that the club has never been in better shape on the pitch - not only are the first team over-achieving, but the reserves are going very well and the youth team performed wonders to reach the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup.

It would be tragic if the Harriers were to lose their league status in the not-too-distant future, having taken over a century to achieve it, due to lack of interest and investment.

I would urge anyone who cares about the future of Kidderminster Harriers to attend Aggborough on a regular basis or you will forfeit your right of complaint when all the best players have to be sold.
