THE Great Hall at an historic Elizabethan stately home has been given a grand spring makeover in time for the launch of the new season.

The room at the Grade II-listed Harvington Hall has been fitted with a new Elizabethan-style candelabra made by an Arts and Crafts movement craftsman and donated by a Cambridge man.

Hall business manager Sherida Breeden described the new arrival as "stunning" and said the attraction had also hung up the first of three new sets of curtains.

They have been created by members of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies to match patterns found on former panelling in the hall.

Two living history weekends set in the Elizabethan civil war period will be held at the hall in May.
