LETTER THE shock resignation of Lionel Newton should not have come as any great surprise since he did give plenty of warning that in the absence of support from local businesses, the council and fans, then he would walk away.

We should just be grateful for everything he has done for the club, which has been phenomenal, and if he had received any kind of support then maybe he would still be chairman.

The spokesman for the Carpet Foundation, Mike Hardiman, stated it would be different if the industry was not going through tough times. Well, where was the help and support during the many good times over the last 10 years?

The football club is not asking for a cash gift, it is offering to promote any company or its products in various ways, shirt sponsorship to name but one.

Perhaps the three major firms, namely Brintons, Victoria Carpets and Tomkinsons, should consider a tripartite sponsorship agreement to help the football club, maybe for a three-year period with shirt sponsorship changing in successive seasons.

Wyre Forest District Council leader Mike Oborski said although the council is not in a position to help the club financially it would do everything they could to help and would continue to do so.

Asking the club to find £5,000 initially for a planning application for the proposed new stand and at a later date asking for a further £25,000 for a feasibility report is a funny way of showing support for the club.

Every adult Harriers supporter should make a point of asking their own local councillor what is being done to support the football club.

Jan Molby has produced a football team which plays attractive football and is a joy to watch.

When you see the sterile football seen by some of our more illustrious neighbours it is difficult to understand why we do not get more local people turning up to support the club.
