He had brought along some of his collection and explained how making the bear began as a cottage industry in Germany in the 1880s.

He told how the bears became popular, and of the growth, and decline, of teddy bear manufacturing thoughtout the 20th century in Europe and the USA.

Members were told how much can be expected for some increasingly rare bears.

Rosemary Boucher won the competition with her 60-year-old Chad Valley teddy bear.

The next meeting will be on April 8 when the competition will be for a hat pin.
