MEMORABILIA of the swinging sixties is being sought by Worcester's Swan Theatre for its latest production which features class divide and the end of the world.

Staff at the theatre are hoping people with photographic slides of the Faithful City between 1958 and 1962 will be able to help them out for Cuba being shown between Thursday, April 4 and Saturday, April 6.

Set at the time of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, the play depicts the lives of two Worcester girls Bernadette and Barbara who decide to mount their own protest in school as World War Three looms.

But the protest then has huge implications for the girls' friendship as class divide soon becomes an issue.

Shaun Weager, technician at the theatre, said he was keen to hear from anyone who has slides of the Faithful City at the time of the crisis, which could add to the atmosphere of the play.

Having slides became quite fashionable at the time so we are hoping people will be able to help, he said.

With music of that era and the slides, we will be able take people back to the time which would enable us to really capture the atmosphere of the early 1960s.

The play will be performed by The Next Generation company part of Worcester Swan's Youth Theatre but will have the backing of professional director Paul Milton together with a back stage crew.

Although the play will be performed by youngsters, it will appeal to adults.

With music from the era and plenty of special effects, he claimed the show promised to be a nostalgic yet poignant night out for many.

It should bring back quite a lot of memories for people especially as the world was on the brink of war at the time," he added.

"Even though the play looks at something that happened 40 years ago, it's very relevant to the world we live in today especially with September 11th and the events which have followed.

The ending of the play has been changed slightly to changed to take into account recent events, but it's not just about doom and gloom and are sure the play will be an enjoyable one.

Anyone with slides they feel would be suitable should contact Mr Weager at the theatre on 01905 726969.
