A DRUNKEN Worcester man threatened to knife a police officer after drinking strong spirits and beer.

The threat was made by Stuart Watts after he was picked up by by police for being drunk and disorderly.

Worcester magistrates heard how the 19-year-old, of Dart Road, Ronkswood, drank strong spirits at his friend's house before going out on Saturday, March, 16.

John Barnett, prosecuting, said two members of the public flagged down police officers at 10.45pm after Watts was spotted kicking a van in Broad Street, Worcester.

He said Watts became aggressive towards a police officer after he was arrested and taken to the police station.

Knife in guts

"He said I'm going to get a knife and stick it in your guts," said Mr Barnett.

Edward Gaynor-Smith, defending, said his client was of previous good character and clearly did not mean the threat made to the police officer.

Mr Gaynor-Smith said Watts had drunk a strong spirit, around 70 per cent proof, at his friend's house before going out and drinking beer.

"Mr Watts is not used to drinking alcohol at that strength and mixed with five pints of beer it made him intoxicated," he said.

"He is deeply ashamed to be before you today. The charge is only for being drunk and disorderly because the threats against the officer were not genuine threats."

Watts admitted being drunk and disorderly.

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay £55 costs.
