PEOPLE living in Dines Green are being given the chance to shape the future of their community thanks to a whistle-stop tour of the city's Community Planning roadshow.

The exhibition, which aims to encourage local residents to have their say on the city's future, will be at the estate's Community Centre from 9am on Wednesday, March 27.

Members of the Worcester Alliance will be on hand to talk to residents about what can be done to make Worcester a better place to live in the future.

Feedback gathered from the event will help in the development of a Community Plan for the city.

Questionnaires will be available which can either be filled in during the exhibition or taken away for completion.

The deadline for the freepost questionnaires to be returned is Wednesday, May 1.

"The Government has asked councils throughout the country to take the lead in developing community strategies," said a Worcester Alliance spokesman.

"These strategies, or plans, bring together the work of local partnerships and agencies and make sure they co-ordinate their efforts for the good of the community.

"Under the banner of the Worcester Alliance, Worcester's Community Plan aims to tackle key issues that affect residents' quality of life, their environment and the city's prosperity."

In addition to the touring display and questionnaires being delivered to all householders, members of the Worcester Volunteer Bureau and other organisations will be asking their members what their vision is for the future of Worcester.

Following on from an event in May, when the results of the consultation work will be announced, the draft Community Plan will be put to the test and published in June.

Robert Moreland, head of Policy and Review at Worcester City Council, and a member of Worcester Alliance said Dines Green Community Centre offered a real focus for local people to come together.

"We hope that by visiting it with our display it will encourage people to come and talk to us and tell us their views," he added.

The display, which is touring the county, will be visiting Worcester Swimming Pool in Sansome Walk on Saturday, April 13.
