A HEAVY drinker hanged himself after becoming worried about "a number of things", an inquest heard.

John Hayes took his own life last month at his home in St Agatha's Road, Pershore.

The builder's labourer, aged 55, left a note saying "Dean Andrew was right".

It referred to a friend who, after the pair had attended a number of recent funerals, warned him that his funeral would be next because of the amount he drank and smoked.

Det Sgt Jon Wallis, who attended the scene of death, said he found the house to be squalid and full of rubbish.

The inquest at Worcester's Guildhall yesterday heard how Mr Hayes was a reclusive person, a heavy smoker and drinker and was worried about a number of things.

Worcestershire coroner Victor Round recorded a verdict of suicide.
