UPTON Ladies were away to Droitwich III on Saturday for their penultimate league game of the season.

DROITWICH III 0, UPTON 4

Playing into the sun in the first half Upton got into their stride early with precision passing.

The Droitwich defence crumbled under sustained early pressure from Rachel Barber.

Bev Ingram got Upton off the mark with quick reactions picking up a rebound from Vikki Atkinson's shot, putting the ball back beyond the keeper.

The second followed quickly with Charlotte Underwood finding space out wide, her pinpoint pass finding Vanessa Dawe who slotted home Upton's second.

With continued pressure Droitwich defended deep and paid the price with several short corners. A quick short pass from the ensuring short corner to Charlotte Underwood was used to full effect as she hammered the ball home for the third goal from an acute angle.

Upton continued in the same vein with more shots on goal which ultimately resulted in a second goal from Bev Ingram who used her skill and quick thinking to place the ball between the legs of the defenders and under the goalkeeper.

In the second half Droitwich put pressure on Upton with a couple of runs down their right wing, but Upton's defence maintained its control with excellent play from Lucy Guilding, Sylvia Gillham and Jacky Farley, enabling keeper Sue Murphy to keep a clean sheet.

Trudy Warner had an excellent game in the right midfield and combined well with Janet Goodier on the wing during a competitive game played with a lot of skill.

Player of the match was Charlotte Underwood. Thanks to Jeff Robinson for umpiring.

Upton wish Vikki Atkinson all the best for her posting to Washington DC.
