TWO bagpipers from Malvern Link will join thousands of other pipers and drummers from all over the world to take part in the largest pipe band display ever in New York on April 6.

As part of an enormous fundraising mission for Marie Curie Cancer Care, Scottish country dancing teacher Pamela Turner and music teacher Carole Bayliss will take their pipes to join in the ScottishPower Tunes of Glory.

So far more than 7,000 pipers from 25 countries are registered to take part and organisers are hoping that that numbers will rise to 10,000 marchers to make a record-breaking event.

Two years ago Marie Curie organised a similar occasion in Edinburgh, when Pamela and Carole took their place amongst 8,000 pipers.

This year the charity hopes to raise $1million during their centrepiece to New York's Tartan Day celebrations.

The two Malvern pipers, who usually play with Cheltenham Pipe Band, are looking forward to their self-funded trip. Although they are raising money through sponsorship for the occasion, all of those donations will go to help Marie Curie Cancer Care and Gilda's Club Worldwide.
