MALVERN Town picked up a comfortable three points at home to a poor Walsall Wood side in the Express and Star Premier Division on Saturday.

MALVERN TOWN 2, WALSALL WOOD 0

Town's success was despite the 10th minute dismissal of Town striker Wes Joyce following an affray with a visiting defender.

Malvern generally controlled the first half without really opening the visiting defence up, but ten minutes into the second half they eventually took the lead.

Youngster Tony Mclean on his first team debut, swung in an excellent near post corner, that was touched on by Dave Cannon allowing Keith Holmans to head home.

Nine minutes later, substitute Lee Hooper slotted a drive past the outstretched hand of the Walsall Wood keeper to secure the points for Town and to also celebrate his signing of a 15-month contract.

Shortly after Wood's Steve Jones was sent off following a foul on Chris Thomas.

Saturday's game also saw former Swindon Town, Bromsgrove Rovers and Evesham United defender Sam Campagna make his debut for Malvern, having signed for Town on the eve of the game.
