WESTFIELDS' bid to carry off the West Midlands League Premier Division title was put on ice when Kington Town gained revenge for their HFA Cup final defeat with a 3-1 victory at Rotherwas.

The defeat ended Westfields' 15-match unbeaten run and still leaves them needing one point from their last two games, at Kington tomorrow and at home to Ettingshall on Saturday, the last game at Rotherwas before the club move to their new Moor House ground.

Westfields never got into their stride although they did have an early chance when Mark Hibbard had an effort cleared off the line.

Kington then hit Westfields with two goals in three minutes. In the 35th minute Danny Hill let fly from 20 yards giving Jon Pugh no chance, and then Mark Davis raced clear and beat Pugh at the near post with a good finish from 15 yards.

After the break Alex Hunt headed home a right wing cross to make it 3-0 but Westfields pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when Chris Jefferson and Paul Burton set up a chance for Hibbard who chipped the Kington 'keeper Carl Ross.

* Malvern Town maintained their hopes of a top five finish with a 1-0 win at Heath Hayes.

Despite being without several key players, Town soon took the game to their hosts and were denied a penalty as early as the third minute, when Des Cox was pulled back in the area.

Cox was a constant threat for Town and was denied by the home 'keeper's legs in a one-on-one situation. The same fate befell Mark Taylor shortly after.

Heath Hayes came close to taking the lead when a shot was brilliantly tipped on to the bar by young Town 'keeper Steve Thomas.

Malvern went in front in the 49th minute when Nathan Owen set up Mark Taylor, who fired home off the underside of the bar.

Town continued to press although Heath Hayes were always a threat from set pieces, but the back three of Andy Chalmers, Dave Cannon and Nick Clayton were in good form and Thomas was assured in goal as Town held on for the three points.

* Ledbury Town ended their season with a 3-1 win over Little Drayton Rangers, while Bromyard Town went down 3-0 at Shawbury United.
