WEST Mercia Magistrates' Courts Service - which has undergone a multi million pound courthouse refurbishment programme - has been praised in a report to the Lord Chancellor.
The report from the Magistrates' Courts Service Inspectorate said the huge project marked out West Mercia from other amalgamated areas in the country.
The service, which resulted from the merger of Shropshire and Hereford and Worcester magistrates' courts committees, is unique because the amalgamation took place in the middle of the courthouse revamp.
The work was funded through the Private Finance Initiative and saw the refurbishment of Redditch Magistrates Court as well as new courthouses in Kidderminster, Hereford and Worcester.
The Grove Street court, the last to be improved, re-opened at the end of March and cases were moved to Droitwich while work was carried out to extend and refurbish the court to modern standards.
