DROITWICH Spa A Football Club claimed their first piece of silverware this season - the Bayliss Cup - with a 2-1 defeat of Worcester City Youth.

On a memorable night at City's St George's Lane last Wednesday Spa, who last won the cup in 1998, largely outplayed their younger opponents.

Manager Richard Goode said: "It's good for everyone involved in the squad to be successful, especially in the manner that we won the game and conducted ourselves."

Spa's supremo has now won a trophy in each of his three seasons in charge and has the chance of defending the Martley Cup on tomorrow (Thursday) against Bransford Rovers, again at St Georges Lane.

Droitwich started quickly and a goal ahead early on when Garry Norris flicked on Chris Everett's free-kick, which Mick Quinn volleyed home.

Worcester began to come back into the game and Spa were indebted to goalkeeper Simon Denby who performed three excellent saves to keep the lead intact.

Spa's defence was finally breached on half time when a shot squeezed inside the post. Stopper Denby was booked for his part in a minor incident in the goal afterwards.

The winner came 20 minutes from time. Man of the match Neil Randle's 20-yard shot was redirected into the net by top scorer Greg Thomas.
