ALAN Ryan was this week's winner of the Northfield Starlets Veterans event on Tuesday at Moorlands Farms Meadow pool.

Pole fishing double red maggots at peg 42, Ryan took a mixed catch of 39-3-0. Second place Maurice Reynolds (Northfield) had 28-12-0 with Roger Banfield (Stourport) third, taking 22-11-0.

Astwood Fisheries' Wednesday open was held on the Buddleia pool with first place going to Rob Francis (Droitwich Angling Centre) with a pole and corn catch of 30-4-0 from peg 50. John Halfpenny (Astwood) was second with 22-10-0; third, Ron Fowler (Weoley Castle), 17-14-0.

The C & M Match group open took place on Woodlands Views Barley and Hay pools with in-form Al Lees (Charford) taking the honours by long pole fishing strawberry flavoured meat at Hay peg five for 37-8-0. Second, Dave Green, (Birmingham) 32-2-0 and third, Roy Freeth (Northfield), 30-0-0.

On Thursday, the Midland Bears Disabled AA were on Woodlands View's Ghost pool with Bert Sutton (Great Barr) taking a top catch of 29-2-0 with pole, corn and meat from peg six. Keith Chambers (Shirley) was second with 26-2-0 while third was Lees (Charford) with 25-12-0.

The KH Veterans had a change of scenery at Hay Farm, Bewdley. Brian Hill (Stourport) showed the way by pole fishing casters up in the water for 29-4-0 of Carp and Roach. Second was Stan James' (Bewdley) 22-4-0 with third going to Mike Millinchip (Kidderminster), taking 16-0-0.

Moorlands Farms Costcutter open was won by Dave Highfield (Causeway) with an outstanding catch of 113-10-0 by pole fishing corn and meat in the margins of Meadow pool peg seven. Runner-up Harry Colley (WAC Tackle) had 79-13-0 and third was Brian Cauley (Strike Angling) with 76-2-0.

The three-hour evening open was also held on the Meadow pool and Harry Colley moved up a gear to take a winning 72-10-0 catch from peg 21 with pole fished corn. Brian Cauley took second place with 56-2-0 while third was Mark Chard (Moorlands) with 56-0-0.

Friday's Meadow pool open went to Ian Whitehouse, under his new banner of Strike Angling, and he put a mammoth 166-11-0 on the scales by pole fishing corn in the margins of peg 36. Pete Short (Midland Leisure) took the only other ton-up catch of 121-7-0 for second; third, Adam Toal (Lifestyle), 82-0-0.

The three-hour evening open saw Short move into first place and again it was corn that produced the goods at Meadow peg 40 for 79-11-0. Second was Pete Wellington (Moorlands) with 74-0-0; third, Paul Williams (Rubery), 52-0-0.

Round one of the Moorlands Farm teams of our Summer League kicked off on Saturday. Shakespeare star Stuart Pulsar lead his team to victory with an 86-0-0 catch of Carp and Chub from Bank pool peg eight, taken with pole fished corn and worms. Whitehouse (Strike Angling) took 71-7-0 for second with third going to Mal Talbot's (Kamasan) 70-12-0.

The table sees Shakespeare on 13 points; Gold 15; Strike Angling 17.

Moorlands Farm's Island pool open was won by Steve Juliff (Pershore) with a pole and meat catch of 47-12-0 from peg four. Nick Cullis (Wolverhampton) came second with 25-11-0 while third was John Manifold (Stallybridge), taking 23-15-0.

Round five of the Preston Innovation Woodlands View Spring League was topped by Richard Lawson (Colmic) who pole fished chopped worms with casters at Dean pool peg 48 for a Carp and Tench catch of 63-12-0. Second was Mike Jones' (Mosella Slapheads) 54-12-0 with third going to Paul Sibley (Shimano Portway), taking 50-12-0.

The top team on the day was Daiwa Trentmen Plus with 15 points; Daiwa Trentmen Red 21; Ted Carters 21. Overall, Daiwa Trentmen Red lead with 105; Ted Carters 119 and Daiwa Trentmen Plus 129.

Woodlands View's Sunday open saw moderate catches. Lee Edwards (Tedagar AC) showed the way with 29-0-0 by pole fishing the margins of Deans pool peg 12 with chopped worms and casters. Second, Steve Townesend (Oxford Drennan) , took 23-8-0 with Gary Barclay (Oxford Drennan) taking 21-8-0 for third.

Kings Norton AS held its first bye contest on the Staffordshire-Worcester Canal at Greensforge. Fish were at a premium for the winner, Northfield matchman Jim Pedley, needing just seven Gudgeon plus a bonus eight ounce Chub taken with pole and pinkies for a total ten ounces eight drams. Richard Hoban followed with nine ounces, third was Bruce O'Connor with eight ounces 12 drams.

Astwood Fisheries' bluebell pool open was headed by Tony Richards (Bartley Green) who pole fished luncheon meat at peg six for 32-11-0. Runner-up Paul Savings (Sheldon Heath) had 26-3-0; third, Stuart Aston (Swan AC), 22-14-0.

Lee Richards (Lifestyle) rounded off the Moorlands Farm's results with a near ton-up catch of 90-15-0 taken with pole and corn from the margins of Meadow pool peg seven. Second place went to Steve Harris (Harris MG) with 71-7-0 and third to Whitehouse (Strike Angling), taking 52-0-0.
