VILLAGERS in Belbroughton defied the rain to welcome in the new month of May with a range of activities, including maypole dancing on the village green. Jennifer Yates was crowned May Queen.
A HUMANE plastic mousetrap designed by freelance inventor Maurice Juggins, from Blackwell, Bromsgrove, featured in the TV science programme Tomorrow's World. The trap caught the rodents alive, allowing them to be released elsewhere. Mr Juggins was in charge of design at the Birmingham Art and Design Centre.
POPULAR comedian Les Dawson was at the Park Gate pub to present a cheque for £179 to a cancer charity. The cash had been raised by regulars at the pub near Dodford. Les was appearing at the Night Out Club in Birmingham.
AND another showbiz personality was in the area. Goodies star and naturalist Bill Oddie was at Upton Warren nature reserve as part of a sponsored bird watch. He had visited the reserve as a boy when his family lived at Hagley.
