Redditch United 3 Rugby United 1

REDS ended their season on a high, putting the game well and truly beyond Rugby after just 26 minutes.

The visitors looked jaded after a long, hard season and gifted Redditch three goals before half time.

First on the scoresheet was Naveed Arshad. Redditch's first corner of the game, from winger Matty Hall, was headed out by the Rugby defence but straight to Arshad who slotted home from ten yards.

Captain for the day Richard Softley doubled Reds' advantage six minutes later after Hall swung in a dead ball near the corner flag.

And on 26 minutes it was dj vu for the Rugby back line as Hall clipped in another dead ball from the left for leading scorer Simon Hollis to head home.

But being three goals down with 20 minutes to half time still did not spark the visitors into life and it was Redditch who spurned the majority of chances to go further ahead.

But after the break it was a different story and Rugby looked like the team who had just scored three.

The visitors chased the game and created chances to get back into the match and but for Reds keeper Richard Anstiss and good covering from defender Neil Manton it could have been a different result.

But Anstiss and the Redditch defence could do nothing to stop a 25-yard piledriver from Jamie Williams in injury time.

Redditch closed the game out and even took the opportunity to let Reds coach Kim Casey have a run out for the last ten minutes.
