LICENSEES in Alcester have been warned of the consequences of serving alcohol to young people following the successful prosecution of the manager of a Warwickshire off-licence.

In Operation Alcotots last year the county council's trading standards service used teenage volunteers to buy alcohol to catch out suspect licensees. Out of 45 test purchases there were 25 sales made.

Mohammed Ashraf, of Nuneaton, was fined £300 and ordered to pay £100 costs when he pleaded guilty to selling intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of 18. The maximum fine is £1,000.
