PUPILS from Droitwich Spa visited India to experience life for youngsters at a partner school in Delhi.
As part of Droitwich Spa High School’s four year old 'Dreams and Teams project' which is funded by the British Council, a lucky group experienced the sights and sounds of the country for a week.
They were accompanied by three members of staff from November 21.
The students stayed with Indian families and attended lessons with their partner students at Ramjas School.
The visitors took part in a sports event where they taught the Ramjas students rounders and ran matches. The Ramjas pupils then taught the Spa teens the national Indian games of coco and pitthu.
Spa pupils visited some of the sights of Delhi, the Qutb Minar, the Tomb of Humayun, the Lotus Temple, the Red Fort and India Gate. They also went to Agra and saw the Taj Mahal.
The students immersed themselves in the culture and were willing to be involved with everything, trying all the spices and foods of the different regions.
On their final night they went to the first showing of an Indian dance festival which introduced different dances from different regions together with the history and dresses of the dance.
All the students struck up friendships and are excited about the return visit when they will have the chance to show the Ramjas students some of the sights of England and the differences between the two schools.
During their time in India the teachers were also hard at work. During the stay they worked on various joint curriculum projects with the Indian staff. The most exciting project will be the involvement of the 'Dreams and Teams' students in the Commonwealth Games next year.
