Flood firm visit

A COUNCIL leader and an MP have both praised a Droitwich Spa firm that specialises in flood prevention measures.

Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff and leader of Wychavon District Council, Paul Middlebrough, paid a visit to UK Flood Barriers’ (UKFB) pioneering defence facility in the town before they hailed the company as British industry at its best.

Uniquely, UKFB has developed its own product testing tank, which ingeniously simulates flash flooding and standing water situations to show how properties can be protected.

The duo were given a special demonstration of the company’s innovative range of flood protection products, including the world-acclaimed self-closing flood barrier.

Recently launched in the UK, this ingenious system from UKFB weighs less than water and automatically rises like a floating wall when flood levels rise. It is already being hailed as a major breakthrough over permanent structures.

UKFB’s success is a boost to the region said Peter Luff MP. “The story of UK Flood Barriers is doubly good news.

“Here we have a local company which is providing innovative solutions to one of the most pressing problems in the region and indeed the UK.

“There is hardly a community locally which has not been affected by flooding in the past few years, so the work carried out by UKFB is invaluable.

“Against a difficult commercial climate and rising unemployment, UK Flood Barriers is expanding and creating new manufacturing jobs in Worcestershire.

“What's more, the company is actively supporting other local businesses by sub-contracting locally.

Paul Middlebrough added: “UK Flood Barriers flies the flag for British manufacturing.

“Both in my public role and personally I’ve experienced the misery that is caused by flooding. Not only are people left in a situation where their property is damaged or even ruined, the aftermath can be just as difficult with complicated insurance claims to sort out.”
