A MAN was left with bite wounds to his arms after he tried to rescue his pet cat from the jaws of two dogs.
Fifty-nine-year-old Danny Robinson stepped in to try and protect family pet Bubbles from being savaged by greyhounds outside is Nunnery Avenue home at around 9.30pm on Sunday (July 4).
“I heard a commotion outside and went to see what was going on. What I saw was two dogs ripping Bubbles apart.
The owner of the dogs was trying to get the cat away but couldn’t do it. At this stage the dogs were in a frenzied state and were out of control.
“I jumped in and grabbed Bubbles and shouted for my wife to call the police. I was left with scratches on my legs, bruises and puncture wounds on my arm from where the dogs bit me,” said Mr Robinson.
Unfortunately he was too late to save former stray Bubbles, who the family have looked after for 8 years, and the cat was put down due to the severity of the injuries shortly after the attack.
“I am now fearful that something like this will happen again. There are a lot of schools nearby and so a lot of children in the area,” he added.
“The police were brilliant and we rushed to the vets to try and get Bubbles help before anything else. I then had to go to the hospital myself because of the bites and to have a tetanus jab. I have since been to my GP and am having antibiotics.
“Fortunately I am fine, but he told me never to step in again because of my high blood pressure. It could have been even worse if my heart had given out.”
Police confirmed they were called to the incident and will be investigating it as a matter of owning a dog that is out of control that causes injury.
