A MAN came within inches of death as he was hit by a train travelling at 100mph near Droitwich Spa.
The 56-year-old male, who has not been named, received a glancing blow from the train at Evelench crossing in Tibberton on Saturday, June 27.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to railway tracks near Plough Road shortly after 7.30pm.
An ambulance, an incident support officer, a senior paramedic manager, a emergency doctor, paramedics from the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were all sent to the scene.
The incident is being a treated as non-suspicious and left the man with a broken pelvis.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived at the scene to find a man on railway tracks who had reportedly received a glancing blow from a train travelling at around 100mph.
“The man suffered back pain and suspected internal injuries.
“Crews and the doctor on scene administered pain relief to the man and sedated him to stabilise his condition before he was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board and treated for his injuries. The man was transferred to Worcester Royal Hospital by land ambulance for further assessment and treatment.”
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman added: “The train involved was the 5.45pm Cardiff to Birmingham rail service.
“BTP officers attended the incident alongside officers from West Mercia Police and paramedics from the local ambulance service. The man, whose injuries are not life-threatening, was taken to hospital where he currently remains.”
