A MOTORIST who received £875 in fines had not passed his driving test when he was pulled over by police.

Kumar Sreekumaran Nair was stopped on Townsend Way, Malvern, after officers spotted his tax disc was out of date.

When Nair stopped, further investigations revealed he only had a provisional driver’s licence adding he had “just come from having a driving lesson,” according to Marie Watton, prosecuting.

There were no L plates on the car and Nair was alone in the car. He also confirmed to police he did not have a valid MOT certificate.

At a hearing at Worcester Magistrates Court, which Nair did not attend, driving records showed the 28-year-old, of Pickersleigh Road, Malvern, had passed his test on Sunday, November 29, just 12 days after being stopped.

Magistrates fined Nair £175 and handed him three penalty points for driving other than in accordance with his licence.

For driving without insurance he received six penalty points and £525 and for having no test certificate he was fined £175.

Nair was also ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £60 costs.
