EXCELLENT weather again greeted the first day of the Mercian Festival Youth Football League finals at Malvern Town’s Langland Stadium.

The girls’ games started with the Mercian League Cup Under 10s final which saw Warndon Villages Wildcats beat Ferndale Youth 4-0.

In the Ron Handy Memorial Shield Under 11s final, Perdiswell and Worcester saw off Droitwich Spa Wildcats 2- 0.

West Hagley beat Redditch United Jewels 1-0 in the Trophy World Cup Under 12s and Redditch United defeated Worcester City Wanderers 3-0 in the Ted Price Memorial Cup Under 15s.

League chairman George Silverman thanked all the officials for their services during the season.

Silverman was also grateful to Malvern for the use of their ground and the families of the trophy providers for presenting the cups.

He said: “The crowds turned out to watch the matches with well over 1,000 people coming through the turnstiles for the seven finals played during the day.”
