A TEENAGER has gone under the scissors for the first time in her life and had 16 inches (40.6cm) of hair lopped off her locks for charity.

Phoebe Cornish has raised more than £400 in sponsorship which she will donate to St Richard’s Hospice and possibly another city charity if she raises even more money.

The hair will be donated to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss.

We previously reported how the 13-year-old of Dines Green, Worcester, who attends Christopher Whitehead Language College, thought of the idea after her grandad Tony Russell died of cancer aged 76 in August last year.

Susan Russell, of Peachley Gardens, Lower Broadheath, said she was proud of what her grandaughter had achieved.

“We would like to thank everybody who has sponsored Phoebe,” she said. “We’ve even had donations from Devon and there’s more to come.”
