A PERSONAL experience of cancer inspired a compelling exhibition at Worcester Cathedral.
Bald Statements – Good Grief is a series of powerful sculptures – eight stone heads that reflect the journey artist Jean Parker began when she was diagnosed with the disease eight years ago. The works, on display at the cathedral until Sunday, April 19, have been described as an exploration of the grieving process. They evolved from a series of small clay heads Mrs Parker, of Coventry, moulded while on a silent retreat.
She said: “When I started it was just an exploration of what I was going through.
“I would look in the mirror and make these little heads. I had no plans for them and I had no idea what could come from it.”
The sculptures, on display in the Dean’s Chapel, are accompanied by photographs and 3D images.
Mrs Parker, hopes Worcestershire visitors relate to them. She said: “Ordinary people who would never normally go to art exhibitions see it and identify with it. It’s a process many of them have been through themselves.”
Entry to the exhibition is free.
