Take advantage of the Bank Holiday by enjoying a relaxing day at one of Worcester's most historic buildings and gardens.

On Bank Holiday Monday (May 6), The Commandery will offer a variety of wellbeing activities to its visitors.

There will be hour-long restorative yoga sessions in the walled gardens led by experienced instructor, Zoe Meachem.

Her slow and gentle yoga practices are suitable for all levels, including beginners.

Ms Meachem said: "I want to help people experience a calmer nervous system and how wonderful that can feel in our busy lives".

Palm Honey Holistics will be available throughout the day, offering 20 to 30-minute taster treatments such as massages, reflexology and reiki for £15 per session.

Visitors will also be given a chance to explore the venue, a building steeped in history, having been founded around 1085 as a hospital by Saint Wulfstan, then Bishop of Worcester.

It was built surrounding a much earlier Saxon chapel honouring Saint Gudwal.

Visitors will be able to see the wood-panelled Tudor rooms and the Great Hall, and learn about the city’s role in the English Civil War.

Commandery Coffee will be open, offering homemade toasties, cakes and canal-side views.

Picnic blankets are also available for use in the gardens.

Helen Manning, events and activities coordinator at The Commandery, said: "We’re excited to offer this event here at The Commandery at a low cost to visitors.

"It’s a lovely way for people to enjoy the beautiful gardens in the springtime too."

General admission applies and can be booked online or purchased on the day, with no additional cost for the yoga.

Free admission to The Commandery is available all year round with a season or Worcester residents’ pass.
