A FAMILY found living in a tent in a Worcester park is now in temporary accommodation with support from the city's homelessness charities.

The large grey tent is pitched up near trees on Pitmaston Park in Malvern Road, St John's.

People were concerned for the welfare of the family with some contacting the police and the city's MP Robin Walker in an attempt to find them support.

It is not known who the family are, how many children they have or how they came to be living in the tent.

A Worcester News reporter visited the tent but nobody was inside when we attempted to make contact.

Park users said they spotted the tent pitched at Pitmaston Park last week and have been concerned for the family,

West Mercia Police said apart from one of its team based in that area being notified about the tent, it had received no further information.

Maggs Day Centre, a Worcester-based charity supporting people who are homeless and vulnerable, said it was "aware" of the matter and was working with the family to reach a solution.

A spokesperson for Maggs Day Centre said: “The individuals are known to Maggs and are working closely with us and other relevant agencies at present to reach the best, suitable solution for them.”

Worcestershire Children First was another agency working with the family - revealing it had provided them with accommodation since the case was brought to their attention.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire Children First said: “The family’s situation has very recently been shared with children’s services and we have been supporting the family with accommodation since, therefore there is no reason for them to be living in the park.

"Children’s services continue to work with partner agencies to support the family and address their situation at this time.”

According to homeless charity Shelter families with dependent children living with them or who might reasonably be expected to live with them are given priority.

It can include 18-year-olds who are in full-time education and are still dependent on the person applying as homeless.
