ORGANISERS of a Worcester café which provides an "important" meeting point are hoping to reach out to more people.

Connexions, which has been open for around two years, welcomes those who may be lonely or vulnerable or suffering with Alzheimer's, dementia or memory loss along with their carers and support.

There are plenty of interesting stories enjoyed at the not-for-profit café which meets at the Worcestershire Football Association headquarters at Claines Lane on Mondays and Fridays.

Volunteer Lisa Plumley-Wood, whose mother Helen Plumley runs the café, said: "This place is so important to the members who come and we want to be there for a lot more who don't know we’re here.

"We have a range of clients from lonely, vulnerable OAPs and those with Alzheimer's and dementia of many types along with their families and carers too.

"They come to us for a friendly chat, advice, activities like cake or biscuit decorating, card making, musical instruments, puzzles or parties.

"We open from 12.30pm until 2.30pm Mondays and Fridays.

"We have been open for over a year and the sessions are very popular for many reasons, whether it's for company or the activity.

"Recently we did a quick first-aid course so they know how to wrap their arm or leg if they need to.

"They love the little things and the stories we hear are so interesting.

"We offer tea and coffee along with a sweet treat, a chat and activities.

"The first Monday we hold a meal where it is always very popular along with special taste sessions. We did a taste test of a popcorn which was sent to us.

"We also have seated exercise, puzzles, surprise guests, parties, quiz games, music and so much more."

The café is supported by hosts Worcestershire FA and otherwise runs thanks to donations which are always welcome.
