A DROITWICH musician has released a shark-inspired EP.

Grace & Majesty is the work of Kurisu Johnston whose music can be found on Spotify, Amazon and other digital platforms using his name in Japanese.

It reflects his love of musicians and animations from the nation with both influencing his songwriting.

His first album Aka Whisper was recorded and released during the first lockdown in 2020 beginning a string of singles and albums that drew from a large catalogue of original material and popular songs from his live performances.

With Grace & Majesty, the vast and mysterious ocean has long been a source of inspiration for all kinds of artists with hidden secrets, awe-inspiring creatures and a power that is both beautiful and humbling.

It is within this realm that Kurisu’s latest musical endeavour takes form with a collection of five instrumental tracks dedicated to shedding light on the often-misunderstood world of sharks - Mako, Hammerhead, Wobbegong, Basking and Ganges.

The EP aims to showcase the creatures in a new, positive light, challenging the stereotypes that have plagued them.

It was inspired after Kurisu attended a webinar held by the Shark Trust charity for its members which discussed the portrayal of sharks in the media with almost a quarter of the species threatened by extinction.

It was suggested that people in the creative arts could come up with something to counter this perception and Kurisu was inspired.

“I’ve loved sharks for as long as I can remember and care passionately about their survival,” he said.

“They have such an important role in the ocean’s ecosystem and their conservation is of vital importance so to be able to create something that I hope will help improve their image and inspire others to help protect them means the world to me.”

The EP is available now on all major music platforms.
