FREEZERS have been stocked and the barricades have been manned at a city flat after three tenants received an eviction notice. 

Alfred Evans is one of three tenants at Castle House in The Tything who are being evicted from the HMO for what he claims is "no reason".

However, Black Pear Letting Agency said he had breached the tenancy agreement.

Now, Mr Evans has placed household belongings, from sofas to a bike, against the front door to prevent him and the other tenants from being thrown out of the flat.

"I have nowhere to go - the only thing I can go back to is living in a tent and I cannot do that. I have medical issues," said Mr Evans.

"We have barricaded the doors so no one can get come in.

"It has put a lot of strain on me. I am now on a lot of medications."

Mr Evans's eviction notice said he has to leave the property by Monday, February 12 but he remains adamant that everything he and the tenants have done is "above board". 

Black Pear Letting Agency issued the eviction notice and said the three were being evicted due to breaches in their tenancy agreement.

Owner Kayleigh Vernon said: "Mr Evans was served with a valid notice to vacate the property he lives in due to breaches of his tenancy such as smoking in his room and being abusive to members of staff of [my] business.

"Mr Evans was given leniency previously, such as being allowed to stay whilst he accrued rent arrears, which were later settled.

"However, Mr Evans' increasingly unacceptable behaviour has given his landlord no choice but to serve the notice.

"Mr Evans' barricade of the property is putting all tenants at risk and is of great concern. It is hoped the Police will be able to bring this to a safe conclusion."

Mr Evans has denied the claims.

Castle House's landlady, Jo Smith, said they lease the property to a third party.

She said: "We are disappointed to hear that some of the tenants in the property are unhappy. 

"One of the tenants is now protesting peacefully to avoid eviction. 

"We hope that these tenants find a satisfactory resolution."
