9:49am Friday 18th July 2008

THERE was plenty to shout about when William Bate celebrated his 100th birthday.

William, who was born and lived in Droitwich Spa until he was married, reached the major milestone on June 30.

The 100-year-old moved to Bromsgrove after his marriage to late wife Agnis and worked in the town for many years.

He was at the salt plant in Stoke Works for 25 years and also worked at LG Harris brush works in Stoke Prior.

William is also well-known for being a keen sportsman and having connections with Stoke Works Football Club.

The great-grandfather now lives at Parklands residential home in Callow Hill, Redditch.
