THE wait is nearly over for shoppers to get their hands on a Worcester Monopoly board game.

Toys and Games Worcester, who designed the city-based board, will be opening a Monopoly shop on Saturday, November 18 which will welcome dignitaries and people for the grand reveal of the game.

Following the launch, people will be able to purchase the board from 10am onwards from the designated shop on Broad Street.

The Monopoly shop will only be open for the day, and shoppers can then purchase the board from Toys and Games Worcester in Broad Street or online.

Toys and Games Worcester designed the board with brand-new features after many customers had entered the store requesting it.

Owner Tim Evans has lived in Worcester for 50 years and wanted the board to pay homage to his city's iconic landscapes and inside jokes.

In 2006, Worcester had its first Monopoly board created in a similar fashion to the world famous London board.

However, the game eventually became outdated because many of the shops and businesses it featured either closed down or rebranded.

Many toy shops stopped stocking it.

"A lot of businesses mean nothing apart from to those who worked there, so we hope this appeals by sites and what it is like to be a part of the Worcester community," he said.

Mr Evans mostly kept his lips sealed when asked about the game's contents, but he did reveal what was on one of the chest cards.

It will read: "You have been injured in a battle of Worcester re-enactment event. Pay £50."

He added: "We found the appeal will not just be Worcester (residents) but worldwide.

"Worcester is a lovely place to live and work, and we hope people will want to retain a memory of the area."

The game will be exclusively sold from Toys and Games Worcester and is already available for preorder on its website.

It can be preordered online and sold at a retail cost of £34.99.
