NEW signs welcoming visitors to Droitwich Spa have been erected on routes into the town.
Droitwich Spa Town Council says that five boundary signs have been installed.
“By providing these new signs, it shows continued commitment from Droitwich Spa Town Council to support these two worthy organisations. And it also adds an attractive entrance to each of the town boundaries, welcoming visitors who pass them.”
Spa mayor Richard Morris
The signs will also be used to mark the 25th anniversary celebrations of the twinning association and the achievements of the Droitwich Spa Fair Trade Committee, which gained Fair Trade status for the town on June 29, 2007.
At a committee meeting, held on September 24, 2007, a resolution was passed to purchase the five welcome signs.
Droitwich Spa, which is twinned with Bad Ems in Germany, is hosting four days of celebrations from June 26-29 and residents belonging to the Droitwich Twinning Association will act as hosts to German visitors who will be staying in homes around Droitwich.
A welcome party, to be held in Lido park, will launch the celebrations and plans to entertain the guests for their stay are being made.
In a double celebration for the town, the Fair Trade committee has worked hard to gain Fair Trade Status.
This has involved local businesses, educational establishments, organisations, voluntary and faith communities in showing their commitment in using Fair Trade products.
Cafes and catering establishments are being asked to serve Fair Trade tea and coffee and Fair Trade products must be readily available to purchase in shops located in the town.
Spa mayor Richard Morris said: "By providing these new signs, it shows continued commitment from Droitwich Spa Town Council to support these two worthy organisations. And it also adds an attractive entrance to each of the town boundaries, welcoming visitors who pass them."
The signs are located at Copcut island, Hanbury Road, Kidderminster Road and Bromsgrove Road near the Chateau Impney.
