IT seems some Hereford folk have a low opinion of Worcester - they want it to replace "jail" on the Monopoly board.

Later this year Hereford will be immortalised in a new edition of the classic family board game.

Over the last 10 days, Herefordshire residents have been sharing suggestions for the board and the idea of replacing jail with Worcester has apparently been one of the more popular notions.

Ella Gibbs, from makers of the new game Winning Moves UK, said: "A huge thank you to everyone who has sent in suggestions so far.

"We shall be formally going through each and every one - once polls have closed – before starting to put this unique edition together."

“A Community Chest or Chance card ordering players to 'Go to Worcester' and imposing a fine is one proposal we shall certainly be looking at.

“It has been mooted on the official Monopoly Hereford Facebook page.

Ms Gibbs added that they are considering some less contentious ideas.

She said: “Some people would also like to see the world-famous Herefords – the first English cattle to be recognised as a true breed – to feature on either a red or yellow square.

"This is something we shall be looking at too, and is perhaps less controversial than the Worcester suggestion.”

The Hereford edition, scheduled to release in October, will featured property squares, Chance and Community Chest cards themed around the city.

Mike Truelove, CEO of Hereford BID, said: "This is a unique opportunity for local organisations and businesses to significantly raise their profile and help cement Hereford as a community and destination worthy of a visit.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Monopoly and the benefits this will bring."
